Types of Natural Stone

Commercial classification

Basalt

Basalt

Basalt is a very hard volcanic rock that can easily be compared to granite. Basalts mostly have
a uniform grey shade. That is why they fit perfectly into a modern, minimalist decor.

Granite

Granite

The hardness of granite is undeniably one of the biggest assets of this type of natural stone.
Thanks to its wear resistance, it is the perfect floor material for high traffic areas or the best material for kitchen worktops. Other characteristics of granite are its good resistance to dirt, its plain character and the very fine joints.
Granite shades mostly vary from light grey to black, although other colours are possible as
well.

Limestone

Limestone

Two major groups can be distinguished here: softer and harder limestone. The first group consists of the white stones. White stone is quite porous and is therefore more appropriate for application in sunny places within the outdoor flooring. They are also always offered in honed finishing.
The second group consists of the harder types, which are more compact and can generally be used for heavy-traffic areas.

Quartzite

Quartzite

Quartzite belongs to the harder types of natural stone. Quartzite is a cleaved stone usually offered in a natural cleft finish. This finish accentuates the rustic character of this material. The sparkling parts on the surface of this type of natural stone are quartz granules.

Slate

Slate

Slate has been a huge success in recent years. This is above all due to the very favourable
price/quality ratio. We specially chose Montauk and Black Slate because of their neutral grey shades and their natural surface. Both slates are of course frost resistant. Slate is found in fine, compact layers in the quarry. The natural surface has a rather rough look.

Marble

Marble

Marble is a hard, compact type of stone that has been used for many centuries in the construction sector. It is often applied as a decorative element in bathrooms or kitchens, where it can be processed in either a modern or a more classical style. Floor finishing is best done with honed tiles.

Sandstone

Sandstone

With its natural cleft surface and variegated shades, this type of natural stone is particularly suitable for applications in rustic and rural surroundings.
Some types are slightly more porous and therefore more suitable for the sunny side of the house.
