Old-fashioned natural stone is asked for more and more. In our previous newsletter, you could learn about Royal Thala antique. In this number we introduce you to CREMA MARFIL and ROJO ALICANTE, 'antique tiles' of 40 x 40 x 2 cm. By invitation of our producer, several Beltrami colleagues travelled to Novelda in Spain. One of them, Nele Sergyssels, who is head of our internal sales team, reports. In brilliant sunshine we started our working visit with a trip to the quarry of Crema Marfil, about twenty-five kilometres outside of Novelda. Very impressive ! At no less than 7 locations they were extracting blocks. Very typical are the many break lines that are evident in the marble wall, which does not make the selection of the core material easy. Enormous bulldozers and low-loaders drive to and fro, carrying the massive blocks to the storage area. From here, the best blocks are transported to the production facility in Novelda. The less good blocks are cut in the quarry itself as inexpensive floor tiles; on the Spanish market these tiles will be laid in their rough condition and then finished and polished in situ !

In the workshops in Novelda stand numerous block and gangsaws that represent an enormous production capacity. For the finishing of the various products there are no less than 3 fully automatic tile and slab polishing lines. We examined for ourselves the strict selection criteria that BELTRAMI again and again insists upon from its suppliers: the workers confirmed that only the top quality is reserved for us ! Afterwards, we went to a separate production facility, where a new installation is operating for old-fashioned tiles. Here, the roughly sawn tiles are sanded and treated by means of a special process; the end result is a rather rough and matt surface that has a beautiful old-fashioned appearance. This technique enables us to offer a large tile (40 x 40 x 2 cm), with an old-fashioned finish, at an affordable price.
