Tunisian visit report

Quality and selection are two of the most important corner-stones of our company?s philosophy. To ensure this, a permanent quality-control system is vital. It was with this in mind that two of our sales staff, Olivier Loin and Pascal Rommel, travelled to Thala in Tunisia at the end of February, to inspect the quarry and the production facilities of ROYAL THALA. This hard, beige limestore was already in use by the Romans over 2,000 years ago. Evidence of this may still be found in Carthage. The quarry and the production facilities are situated about 250 km to the West of Tunis. The geological structure of the quarry shows clearly that here they are extracting a sedimentary stone: the different layers are bound together by minuscule quantities of natural minerals. The depth of the layers determines the thickness of the blocks. At Thala, the depth of the layers varies between 40 and 60 cm, which is why small blocks are extracted which, nevertheless, have beautiful structure and colours. Our colleagues have selected, in the presence of the quarry manager, the layers that we will use for the production of our tiles. The production line is situated about one kilometre from the quarry : a new, small factory, equipped with the most modern Italian machinery. It is here that the blocks are worked on, in order to obtain the different tile formats needed. A new treatment of this limestone is called ROYAL THALA ANTIQUE : a stone that has the appearance of an old rustic abbey stone. If you would like to know more about ROYAL THALA ANTIQUE, be sure to ask for a free sample and technical information.
