CE-Standards

Until now the only standard applied in Belgium for external flooring in natural stone was the NBN B17-001 (frost resistance test). In 2003 the European Union decided to set CE-standards for these materials. These standards are meant to inform the customer as good as possible and to define a number of minimum requirements to ensure the safety of the user. It speaks for itself that BELTRAMI will continue it's pioneer's role in this and therefore we have decided to mark all our external materials from the 1st of May 2004 onwards with this CE-label.

The standards to be applied for external flooring in natural stone are:

  • EN 1341: Tiles
  • EN 1342: Paving stones
  • EN 1343: Kerbs

The materials are to be tested on:

  • Rigidity (tiles and kerbs) or compressive strength (paving stones)
  • Rigidity or compressive strength after frost resistance test
  • P-value of the material: this refers to the intensity of use (pedestrian, light or heavy vehicles, ...)
  • Slip resistance: only for saw and hand honed finishes, not for flamed, bush hammered or other anti-slip finishes
  • Wear resistance

The label can easily be recognised by the CE-logo and will be present on all the crates/pallets. The forms with all the test results is available on demand or on our website: www.beltrami.co.uk.
By analogy with natural stone for external use, an European CE-standardization will be implemented for natural stone for internal use as from October 2005. The purpose of this standardization is the same as this for the external materials, namely to inform the customer as much as possible and to commit to some minimal requirements to guarantee the safety of the customer.

Also in this matter BELTRAMI will continue to fulfil its rome of pioneer to inform the customer correctly. As soon as the definitive standards (now we only have pre-normes) are final, we will make sure all our materials will comply to these requirements.
The standards to be applied for internal use in natural stone are:

  • prEN 12057: Modular tiles
  • prEN 12058: Slabs for floors and stairs
  • prEN 1469: Slabs for cladding
